Patients accepted by HOSPICE KLANG are referred by a family physician or specialist. A referral is necessary to ensure that all medical information is available to us. Referral forms are available from our Centre. (*or downloaded - see below)
The main activity of HOSPICE KLANG is the "Home Care" programme. Experienced nurses and volunteers visit homes to see sick patients. Doctors will visit when necessary. At each visit, the patient is assessed. Is there a need for stronger medication for pain? Does the patient need a walking stick or a wheel-chair to get around? Is a special bed needed for the bed-ridden? Is the family properly informed about the illness? How are the patient and family coping? Both physical and emotional needs are looked into. The responsibility of caring is still with the family. Our role is to provide relief and support.
We also run "Clinics" on Saturday mornings at our centre in Taman Sri Andalas for those patients who are still able to travel to come to the centre for consultation and treatment of cancer related problems.
In the near future, we hope to introduce another area of care - "Day Care". This service is for patients who are still physically mobile and can travel to our Centre in Taman Sri Andalas. There in our Centre, they are looked after for the day and they can also meet other patients. Day Care provides Change of Environment, Social Stimulus to eliminate boredom and isolation, Comfort therapies and Respite care. It also provides opportunities for patients to seek medical advice, medical treatment, physiotherapy, etc.
